Carson City officers arrest man in tow truck going 95 mph with emergency lights on

A 57-year-old Carson City caregiver was arrested early Friday morning after deputies clocked the man doing at least 95 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The incident happened at 4:47 a.m. The man was arrested at the intersection of Highway 50 and Flint Road. He faces a misdemeanor speeding charge, as well as misdemeanor reckless wanton driving, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

According to the arrest report, officers observed a 1964 Ford tow truck traveling 72 in a posted 40 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and sped up to the driver who, at that time, had turned on his emergency vehicle lights. Other vehicles on the roadway moved over for the tow truck, which would not stop, the arrest report states.

The officer said the patrol car was doing 95 mph and he could not keep up with the tow truck which was well ahead of him. Once the truck got to the incline up the hill toward Mound House, the vehicle began to slow, and then came to a sudden halt and pulled off the side of the road, according to the arrest report.

The man was read his Miranda rights and advised he would speak with the officer who asked him where he was going. The man replied: To the county line. The officer asked if he had any medical problems. The man replied that he is bipolar and is not taking his medication. The officer asked him why he was driving to the county line and the man said he wanted to speak with an attorney. Bail: $986.

In other misdemeanor-related arrests:

— A 29-year-old Minden woman was transferred from Douglas County to Carson City Jail and arrested Jan. 31 on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay court-ordered restitution. Bail: $6,350.97.

— A 26-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Jan. 31, 11:57 p.m in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for failure to appear for a traffic warrant out of Dayton Township. Bail: $1,441.

— A 26-year-old Reno man was arrested Jan. 31, 11:08 p.m. at South Carson and Stewart streets on a contempt of court warrant out of Washoe County. Bail $765.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested at 11:06 p.m. Jan. 31 in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway. He faces charges of being in violation of probation. He was taken from the hospital facility and put into police custody after allegedly being combative.

— A Carson City roofer faces a failure to appear charge of petit larceny and was arrested Jan. 31, 6:31 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street. Authorities arrived after a call about a man lying on the ground behind a supermarket. Upon arrival officers found the man and a routine check learned he had a confirmed warrant issued in 2007 for failure to appear in court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 27-year-old Dayton woman faces misdemeanor charges of failure to appear and contempt of court after being stopped at 11:20 a.m. Jan. 31 at Adams and Fall streets. Bail: $712.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor charges of obstructing and resisting arrest and being a minor consuming alcohol. The man was arrested at 1:55 a.m., Jan. 31 in the 1500 block of Rand. Officers were called to the location after they were advised that there were several male subjects fighting in the neighborhood. As officers were speaking with a victim in the fight, the 19-year-old man, who had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, attempted to run from the police. Bail: $654.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Jan. 30 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Jacobs Way and Tonka Street. Officers saw the vehicle and ran the plates which came back with a warrant issued for the woman's arrest for violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $1,000.

— A 45-year-old Carson City woman faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery after being arrested Jan. 30, 2:44p.m. in the 3400 block of Airport Road. The report from the call to dispatch was that a man and woman were throwing things at each other near a garage, the arrest report states.
Officers arrived at the home, saw that the garage door was partially opened, and heard a man and woman yelling. When officers announced they were there, both became quiet, the report states.
Officers opened the garage door and saw the man bleeding and had multiple scratches on the left side of his head, back and upper chest, the report states. Officers asked what happened and he told them the woman attacked him because she was upset because he would not drive her to California. Bail: $3,000.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 30, 11:44 a.m. at the intersection of Arizona Court and Colorado Street and faces a charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report the man was a passenger in a woman's vehicle. The two began arguing in the car and the man backhanded her three to four times to the left side of her face as she was driving. The victim reports being hit in the left ear, face nose and upper lip. Officers saw the abrasions and wounds to her face consistent with her story. The man denied hitting the woman.
Bail: $3,000.

— A 30-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Jan. 29, 6:03 p.m. on an outstanding contempt of court warrant for her arrest. She had been wanted for failing to appear to pay fines or restitution as ordered by the court.

— Those arrested and facing charges are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
