A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:38 a.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on a misdemeanor charge, driving under the influence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies patrolling the area of North Roop and Northridge were advised of a possible suicidal subject driving a vehicle.
Deputies located the pickup going east onto Market Street from North Roop and followed it into the Walmart parking lot. The truck turned down one of the parking lot lanes and attempted to park in the northeast portion of the parking lot. Prior to coming to a complete stop, the truck drove over a parking lot median.
A deputy activated his overhead lights and illuminated the truck with a spotlight. The driver exited the vehicle. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man and he was slurring his words. He also had trouble keeping his balance while trying to talk. He was asked if he had any weapons or wanted to hurt himself. The man said he did not. He was asked if he had consumed alcoholic beverages.
The man told the officer, “I am drunk. Just arrest me,” the report states. Due to admitting to drinking he was asked if he would perform standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed. After completing the medical questions the officer attempted a vision test and the man said “I am drunk” and declined to perform the test, the arrest report states.
