An investigation continues into a deadly accident on Pinenut and East Valley roads on Saturday that killed a 24-year-old Gardnerville man. The Nevada High Patrol says speed and alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
NHP reports that a passenger riding in the back seat of a Mitsubishi, Michael A. Lombardo IV died at the scene after being ejected during the accident, reported at about 1 p.m.
According to the NHP report, a white Toyota Tundra pickup with three occupants was attempting to make a left turn from a private drive to head east on Pinenut. Traveling west bound on Pinenut, approaching the intersection at a speed suspected to be much higher than the posted amount of 35 miles per hour, was a white Mitsubishi Lancer, also occupied with three people.

The driver of the Lancer attempted to avoid a collision with the pickup as it entered the roadway and steered the sedan to the left, according to the NHP report. The sedan struck the front portion of the Toyota and then rolled over ejecting one of the occupants. The driver of the Toyota pickup, 18-year-old Ryan A. Moglich of Garnerville, and his two passengers, one from Gardnerville and the other from Minden, were not injured in the crash and all 3 were wearing seat belts.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, 23-year-old Dan Delgadillo and his right front passenger, Sarah A. Duin, 22, sustained moderate to serious injuries and were initially transported to Carson Valley Medical Center by ground ambulance before being airlifted by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
As of this Monday morning, Sarah Duin is listed in serious condition at Renown and Dan Delgadillo was released from the hospital.
Speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt are all suspected to be contributing factors in this accident.  The accident is being investigated by Trooper Eric Gallagher of the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.).  Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who can provide additional information is encouraged to call him at (775) 689-4661 regarding case # NHP-1006050551.
