A Carson City man faces several felony charges including methamphetamine trafficking after being stopped by the Nevada Highway Patrol on Sunday.
Clint G. Malone, 27, is being held at the Washoe County Jail and faces charges of meth trafficking, driving under the influence, speeding, driving on a suspended driver's license and two misdemeanor traffic-related failure to appear warrants. The bail amount was set at $22,054.
During the jail booking, authorities found 7.2 ounces of methamphetamine in Malone's pocket, NHP Trooper Chuck Allen reports.
The arrest happened at around 8:30 a.m., after an NHP sergeant stopped Malone, who was driving a red 2009 Dodge Avenger with four occupants, for speeding on Highway 395 just south of the Plumb Lane interchange in Reno, Allen said. The car was clocked at 80 miles per hour in a posted 65 miles per hour zone.
Malone displayed signs of alcohol intoxication and subsequently failed the standardized field sobriety test, Allen said. Additionally, when asked who was riding in the car with him that morning, Malone could not and did not provide any names of his passengers to the sergeant.
A record’s check of his driver’s license revealed that it was currently suspended and Malone also had two active traffic-related misdemeanor warrants issued by the Union Justice Court in Winnemucca, Allen reports.
He was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility. The other vehicle occupants were identified and released from the scene in a taxi cab.
Once at the jail, Malone submitted to an evidentiary blood test after refusing to provide two adequate breath samples into the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath test machine. During the booking process, 7.2 grams of methamphetamine were located in Malone’s right front pocket of his pants, Allen said.
