Woman jailed on felony charge of debit card fraud

A 28-year-old woman was arrested Monday on a felony charge of debit card fraud after allegedly using a card that a victim lost Friday at a bar and making charges at a convenience store, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Laura M. Zeledon of Carson City is being held on $5,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers met with the victim who said she lost her Nevada driver’s license and a Visa debit card at the bar and later noticed charges made to her card at a Carson City convenience store.

The victim was told by management that the convenience store did have video but could only provide it to law enforcement. A deputy arrived at the convenience store and was advised they could not produce reproductions or burn to a video but instead could obtain photos of the suspect and the suspect’s car.

The officer showed the victim the photos and the suspect and the suspect’s car and then made contact with Zeledon who admitted to the use of the victim’s Visa debit card. She was arrested and charged with felony fraudulent use of a credit or debit card and taken to jail.

In other arrests:
— A 58-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of Airport Road on misdemeanor charges of DUI second offense and driving on a revoked license.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of East Fifth Street in reference to a man who showed to work intoxicated and drove away. He was advised not to drive and was offered a ride home. The man refused and got into his car and drove off.

An address of the man was obtained after a license plate check. A deputy responded to the address on Airport Road, made contact with the man and asked if he could speak with him. The man allowed the officer entry, the arrest report states.

While inside and talking with the man the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, his eyes were watery and he had slurred speech. The man told the officer he had consumed one beer however had been drinking the night before.

The officer checked the man’s eyes and noticed six clues of intoxication. The man agreed to do a series of sobriety tests which he could not complete as explained and demonstrated. The walk and turn and one leg stand had to be stopped because the man nearly fell numerous times, the arrest report states.

The man provided a breath sample that registered a .22. The man admitted to driving to work and back home and had not had alcohol since arriving back to his home. A criminal history reveled he had a prior DUI conviction in August 2013. He was booked for DUI second and driving on a revoked license. Bail: $3,274.

— A 50-year-old Wadsworth, Nev., man was booked Monday into Carson City Jail on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of conditions, issued June 15, 2009 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Monday, 2:30 a.m. on warrant charge, violation of conditions, issued Dec. 19, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

Those arrested on criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
