Seven local businesses were flagged by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday during an alcohol to minors compliance check.
The team consisted of two deputies and two underage decoys, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office press statement. The decoys were sent into the businesses using their actual identification and they attempted to purchase alcohol from an employee.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office routinely conducts these checks with grant money it gets from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.
Grant money is used to offer "server training education" to local businesses and merchants are encouraged to send all employees to these training sessions. To enroll in the next class call (775) 882-6674.
The result of an employee selling alcohol to a minor is a citation with a fine of $632 and a requirement that they attend server training. For the business it is a $100 fine on the first violation. A second violation carries a fine of $500 and a third violation is $1,500 with the business owner having to appear before the Carson City Liquor Board, which has the potential of the business losing their liquor license.
